Nigerian foreign mission worst in the world – Akpabio

Senate Minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, has said that Nigeria has one of the worst foreign missions in the world.
In his contribution to debates on the condition of the nation’s foreign mission, he pointed out that the under-funding of Nigeria’s embassies abroad has constituted a huge embarrassment.

In his contribution to debates on the condition of the nation’s foreign mission, he pointed out that the under-funding of Nigeria’s embassies abroad has constituted a huge embarrassment.

Recalling his experiences when he was governor of Akwa Ibom state where he was hosted by some ambassadors, he revealed that salaries of embassy staff were owed, rents not paid such that children of foreign staff were withdrawn from schools.
“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, I could recall that when I was governor of Akwa Ibom state, I was hosted by some foreign missions and I discovered that even salaries are owed them.
“In some places, Nigeria government could not pay it’s rents and they have to pack out and stayed in boys quarters. Children of some embassy staff have to be withdrawn from schools”, he said.
He added that they have taken corruption abroad by torturing those investors looking for international passports as a means of sustaining themselves.
