INCONCLUSIVE KOGI ELECTION: APC Dumps Faleke, and made their Final Decision On Who To Replace Audu
Following the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) asking the All Progressives Congress (APC) to replace Prince Abubakar Audu in the supplementary elections in Kogi State, the party yesterday announced that it would conduct a fresh primary election to replace Audu. Audu, was the party’s candidate in the November 21 governorship election, but died suddenly on November 22 at his hometown.
The national chairman of the party, John Oyegun, disclosed the position of the party to reporters on Tuesday in Abuja. Festus Keyamo, a notable Nigerian lawyer, had argued that the running mate of Audu, James Abiodun Faleke should automatically become the governorship candidate of the APC because the joint ticket of Audu/Faleke has acquired some votes already.
Audu was leading Idris Wada, incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with 41,353 votes, while a total of 49,953 votes were cancelled in the poll as a result of irregularities, prompting INEC to declare the election inconclusive.
