‘APC plans to sew army, police uniforms for thugs’ – PDP
The Benue state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, says it has uncovered a plot by the state governor, Samuel Ortom of the All Progressives Congress to ‘snatch’ the senatorial seats during the rerun election of Saturday, February 20.
PDP, in a statement released by its state chairman, Emmanuel Agbo, on Thursday, February 18, revealed that Ortom has allegedly armed several thugs to unleash terror and violence in the coming election.
He also alleged that the Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen in Benue South have been ordered to deliver their areas for the APC or be chased out of office.
The statement also alleged that Ortom directed members of his cabinet in Makurdi to deliver Daniel Onjeh of the APC at all cost, based on orders from the presidency.
Agbo, who stated that the PDP has embraced peace in the build up to the election, said: “Nigerians should know that the APC in Benue state has continued to provoke us with ceaseless attacks and harassment. They have made our coordinators and supporters their targets.”
“Our candidate and immediate past President of the Senate, Senator David Mark’s Otukpo country home was the target on Monday when armed men fired gun shots into his compound.”
He further revealed the alleged plan of the APC to sabotage the forthcoming election.
“I have had cause to alert the nation of plot by APC to sew camouflage Army and Police uniforms for thugs to disrupt the election. That plot has continued unabated. Credible information at our disposal indicates that the APC plans to unleash terror through Oju and Agatu local government axis to manipulate the election on Saturday.”
“We are ready for an election that will be conducted in a free and fair atmosphere. The people of Benue South are solidly behind Senator David Mark for the election. The APC knows this much. That is why they want to resort to violence.”
“The governor has before now assured of a peaceful conduct of the election. Unfortunately his actions does not suggest a man craving for peace. Otherwise why would he release those militants he granted amnesty two days to the election and in swift twist of events rearm them ostensibly for the election on Saturday.”
