Senator Marafa’s rift with Saraki’s Senate is ‘misconceived’ – House of Reps

Embattled senator who represents Zamfara Central, Kabiru Marafa has been cautioned by some members of the House of Representative over his outspoken criticism of the senate.
Marafa has been in the news in recent time for making disparaging comments about the senate.

He had alleged that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki was deliberately stalling the passage of the 2016 budget, in order to blackmail the presidency into giving him a soft landing in his ongoing assets declaration trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

He was subsequently indicted by the Senate Ethics committee after investigations were carried out into the allegations. The verdict of the panel has not yet been officially made public.
Marafa in his defense, accused his fellow senators of lying against him as they were scared of him due to their “atrocities” in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

However, in a statement released on Wednesday, February 24, eleven members of the House of Representatives told the embattled senator to respect the popular will of the senators who elected the leadership of the senate to trump his personal interest.

The lawmakers revealed that their interest in the issues came alive when they discovered that Marafa’s constant attacks on Saraki were “misconceived”
They also noted that the attacks had started to affect the integrity of the National Assembly which the Senate President is the chairman of.

“It is indeed regrettable that eight months after the contest for leadership in the Senate ended, Marafa and his group have remained in electioneering mode” they said.
They further described Marafa’s claims that there were columnists working in the interest of the senate leadership as out of order.

The statement also said that any Nigerian who thinks right would know that the budget as presented had a number of challenges which needed joint effort from both arms of government to be fixed.
Those who signed the statement were Kabir Ajanah, Mustafa Dawaki, Gaza Gbefwi, Supo Adeola, Adamu Kamale, Rita Orji, and Chukwueke Anohu.
Others are Zakari Mohammed, Gabriel Onyewife, Ali Issa and Victor Nwokolo.
