Following claims and counter claims, Nigerian troops finally reclaims Gudumbali
Wednesday March 2, 2016
The Nigerian military under the Armed Forces Special Force (AFSF) has cleared all traces of Boko Haram occupation from Gudumbali, the headquarters of Guzamala local government area of Borno State, Daily Correspondents is reporting.
This followed series of claims and counter-claims in recent months in the media about areas still under the occupation of Boko Haram in Borno State since President Muhammadu Buhari came into office.
While the APC-led federal government insist no any territory in the Northeast is under the control of Boko Haram, recent attacks on soft targets especially in Borno have put the Nigerian government claims under questionable doubt.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed this latest military successes in Gudumbali to Daily Correspondents via a press statement.
“In continuation of the clearance of the remnants of recalcitrant members of Boko Haram terrorists in the various nooks and corners of the north east, the Armed Forces Special Forces (AFSF) carried out successful clearance of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in Gudumbali general area,” Usman, who is acting director, army public relations said.
Gudumbali is one of the remote local government areas in northern Borno state that was sacked and occupied by Boko Haram fighters.
It was once reclaimed in the past, but the insurgents crept back and reoccupied the area after the troops had moved on.
But with the Tuesday take over of Gudumbali after a victorious operation by the troops, the news elicited jubilation in some parts of Borno State.
