Read reason why Buhari avoided Lagos official visit. Aggrieved Yoruba APC politicians planned to humiliate him during his visit to Lagos
Fresh facts have indeed emerged about last minute cancelation of General
Muhammadu Buhari's working visit to Lagos. Highly dependable source
from Nigeria's seat of power revealed to DailyGlobeWatch last night in
an email what actually brought about the last-minute reversal and
cancellation of the planned visit.
The entire country was fooled by the Buhari's media aide, Mallam Garba
Shehu on why the president abstained from the visit. Mallam Garba Shehu
had told Nigerians that the planned visit had to be cancelled citing
ill-health and what he described as ''scheduling difficulties''. But in
the email sent to our Paris newsroom far from ill-health there were
ill-conceived plans by some disgruntled members of his party, the ruling
All Progressives' Congress to pay Buhari back in his own coin by
mobilising protesters to openly humiliate the president in Lagos had he
gone ahead and made the visit.
This planned humiliation was to be hatched on that day and intelligence
report that got to the presidency eventually led to the cancellation of
the visit and the Vice President was asked to go in his stead.
Buhari, the report to us said that, was actually running a one-man show
and had soon forgotten how he went cap in hand begging for support from a
very south-west politician to woo voters from the region to his side
which the politician committed his time and money to running into
billions of naira but only to be made a fool for his pains in the end as
he is not often consulted or carried along as he had expected in major
policy decisions of the present administration.
It is a bitter pill which the politician has no option but to swallow
because open complaint could spell doom for him from Nigeria's firebrand
president.
He, according to the report , often feels slighted and in consequence of
this often contribute to national issues in the appearance of Esau but
the deceptive voice of Jacob.
Owing to this, the report said, he deemed secretly wooing powerful
members of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples'
Democratic Party absolutely necessary to float a new party that would
trounce APC ahead of 2019 general elections, all in a bid to cut Buhari
down to size and make him fly an ordinary pitch.
The President, the report further revealed has made administrative
policies that may not be widely popular with the citizenry amid some
political decisions believed to have angered some influential APC
national leaders, particularly from the South West.
The security report, according to the report, which fingered a prominent
national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who is
suspected to be working underground with other politicians, especially
from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to form a new party.
Part of the report read: “There were indications that politicians may
use the angst of the moment to galvanise campaign against 2019”.
Buhari, the report also revealed, had been told before now by some key
northern elements to pay off and distance himself from this powerful
politician of south-western extraction in order to make the nation's
number one office a full northern presidency.
The planned venue which is Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos was to be
infiltrated by protesting members of the NLC and sponsored touts to
openly humiliate Buhari by pelting him and his entourage with stones out
the venue.
The report said security report that arrived the presidency did not
favour a presidential visit to Lagos resulting from the subsidy removal.
“At the time, too, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) were on strike and
it was not certain if the industrial action would be lifted by Monday,”
explained the report we took delivery of from Presidential Villa.
Also in the report was a warning by one south-west governor to Buhari to
shelve plans for the Lagos visit. This governor was said to have
divulged the secret about the political realignment between certain APC
leaders and the former ruling party, the Peoples' Democratic Party,
(PDP).
The report also have it that, ''there are ongoing moves to draw people
from PDP and APC to form a new party and Tinubu is believed to be very
much in the know of it'' and the Lagos visit would have been an
opportunity to openly humiliate the president and make him very
unpopular among Nigerian particularly people in the region thus make his
star begin to set in the south-west political firmament.
