SECURITY SITUATION IN NIGERIA FOR THE PAST 12 MONTHS (MAY 29, 2015 – MAY 29, 2016).
Gen. Mohammad Buhari (rtd)
Security is
seeing as an act of protecting a country and live and properties against the
internal and external aggressions.
Over the years between 2012 to
date, Nigeria as a country have been experiencing security challenges rages
from Boko haram, armed robbery, kidnapping, child trafficking etc.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan
In October 1, 2010 during the
last administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, when we experienced
first bombing in Nigeria, during the Independence celebration in Eagles Square,
Abuja. In 2011, another bomb blast was recorded again in the U.N building by
boko haram elements which killed so many people and many others were injured in
that attack.
From then on
we have recorded several bomb blasts carried out by boko haram in places like –
Churches, Mosques, Motor Parks, Market places, Schools etc. the most height of
it all was the alleged kidnapped of over 200 Chibok School girls on the 14th
of April, 2014, which still remain a controversial issues today, and the Nyanya
motor park bombing on the same day in a separate attack which killed many
people and injured several others.
The last
administration had made several attempts to stop the excesses of the boko haram
activities but was faced with so many challenges/propagandas within and outside
the administration. The enemies within was the soldiers who sent their junior
ones to fight boko haram war without any sophisticated weapons to prosecute the
war and the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki who allegedly
failed use
the 2.1 billion dollars to purchase the arms for soldiers.
The
enemies/propagandas, the APC, the opposition party then, now led government
today were happy when boko haram were killing the innocent Nigerians during the
GEJ’s regime and they went as far as campaigning with it in what I referred as
a boast during the 2015 general election. They also went as far as insulting
our gallant soldiers that they are good for nothing.
Notably- The former Gov. of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, Former FCT Minister, Mallam Nasir El-rufai wrote to the U.S government not to sale arms to Jonathan and Nigeria government to fight boko haram.
- El-rufai even sent images of boko haram in camouflages claiming they are Nigerian
Military abusing people’s right.
- U.S refused to help Nigeria to defeat bokoharm and APC were very happy that
boko haram could not be stopped at the time.
- The current President, Gen. Buhari (rtd) also condemned the GEJ led government seeking for the collaboration of our neigbhouring countries and the international community’s support in combating boko haram insurgency.
- The northern elder s were completely condemned the strategy in which GEJ’s regime was using in combating boko haram insurgency and accusing him of committing a crime against their people, therefore want him to stop the fight.
The GEJ’s regime ended up in May 29, 2015, and failed to stop/defeat boko haram war.
Today, the new administration of Gen. Buhari led government has inherited the fight against the boko haram insurgency. Although, they have done so much in making sure that boko haram is decimated in Nigeria but the insecurity in the country is now on the high side.
The security threat in Nigeria has taking a new dimension since the inception of this administration in May 29, 2015. The most of it is – Political assassinations, Kidnapping for ransom, Biafra agitators, Shiite issues and the most trading now is the activities of Fulani herdsmen.
Boko Haram
In march 2016, boko haram/fulani herdsmen invaded Agatu community in Benue state and killed not less 100 people and their inhabitants and less down so many buildings in that area/community. And nothing has been done to bring the perpetrators to book. The government of the day has also kept mum for the attack and the security agents failed to carry out their duty.
Kidnappers
The silent from the government side have boasted the activities of these normadis to continue with their nafarious act they have now mapped out the areas they are penetrating, they are now in Enugu, Edo, Anambra, Delta, Abia, Imo, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Ogun States and other areas in the southern part of the country.
Fulani Herdsmen
On Monday 25th of April 2016, Fulani herdsmen invaded Ukpabi, Nimbo, communities in Uzo-Uwani Local government of Enugu state. Several people were killed, women were raped and many homes and church were burnt to the ground.
Yet again the president has kept quiet on this issue; he has refused to declare this people a terrorist group. Remember these herdsmen are being declared by the international community as the 3rd largest terrorist group/organization in the world.
Niger Delta Militants
The government is more interested in pipeline vandals that are killing no one and minister of information said that government is working silently to stop the killings why Fulani are not killing silently. If government can declare militants in the Niger, Delta, a terrorist group, why can’t they declare Fulani herdsmen a terrorist group as well?
Instead they are advocating for grazing bill for them in the south and this land they are asking to provide for the herdsmen is owned by individuals.
I have never seen in a place where government forcefully take away the portion of your land and give it away to a group of people/individual freely. And when this happed, what you are looking for is anarchy.
Nnamdi Kanu
Nnamdi Kanu, the director of radio Biafra once predicted all these issues and attacks by the Fulani herdsmen when he was broadcasting on radio some months back and some people tagged it a hate speech. It is unfortunate that in Nigeria today, truth is treason, when you speak the truth people will be calling for your head.
The security agents are not helping the matter. The recent allegedly discovered massive grave in Abia State by the DSS which is generating the needless concern in the country today is something that is worries some. The Department of the Security Services (DSS) was in a month of April, allegedly discovered 55 bodies buried in a shallow grave in Abia and quickly single out 5 persons and tagged them as being the 5 Fulani herdsmen that were kidnapped some days ago were murdered by the IPOB according to the DSS. What about the identity of the remaining 50 bodies? Or is it that they not human being or they don’t have identity?
Biafra Agitators
We must not forget about some of the IPOB members who had gathered themselves to pray for the release of their leader Nnamdi Kanu who have been in detention since October and they got their life caught short in the process, by Nigerian security agents on the 9th of February, 2016 and nobody is talking about it like that. So many Biafra agitators have been killed by the security agents and some are still in detention why some are still missing just for mere protest and nobody is asking question from that angle.
