Government Orders Emergency Security Meeting Following Militant's Bomb Threats
A Niger Delta militant group, the Utorogun Liberation Movement (ULM) has
threatened to blow up the Utorogun gas plant in Ughelli.
Following this threat, governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state on
Thursday, June 16, ordered an emergency security council meeting, at
Otu-Jeremi, headquarters of Ughelli south local government area, Delta
state.
The Utorogun gas plant in Ughelli which supplies gas to Egbin Power Station, Lagos, and other facilities under Oil Mining Lease, OML 34 in Ughelli south local government area of the state.
Speaking on the threats by the militants an industry source said: “It is
risky to ignore the threats by the militants, as they have matched
their words with action, blowing up pipelines repaired by oil companies
despite the presence of soldiers.
“That is the reason why many of the oil companies feel that it is a
waste of resources to spend billions of naira to repair damaged
pipelines, only for them to be breached.”
“I think the best thing is to sort out this matter with the perpetrators so that it will not degenerate to loss of lives and kidnapping,” he added.
