Presidency speaks up over Buhari’s aide linked with Boko Haram
The presidency has reacted to reports that one of the bodyguards of President Muhammadu Buhari has been linked to Boko Haram.
A source within the presidency has confirmed that the allegations
necessitated further background checks and a minor reorganisation of
security detail around the State House.
The source said: “Yes, a suspected Boko Haram member was arrested in
Kogi state but he is not one of the BGs (Body Guards) in the villa.”
According to This Day, it was further revealed that none of the
presidential bodyguards, who are mostly from the Nigerian Army,
including the one whose brother was apprehended, is a member of any
terrorist organisation.
Reports had surfaced that a member of President Muhammadu Buhari’s security guard linked to Boko Haram was arrested.
It was alleged that the suspect and Army Corporal identified as Hassan
Aminu was arrested, forcing the Office of National Security Adviser
(ONSA) to overhaul all of the president’s security agents.
