Lawmakers to FG - Declare security emergency in Southern Kaduna

The House of Representatives on Wednesday called on the Federal and Kaduna State Governments to declare security emergency in Southern Kaduna senatorial district following recent attacks allegedly by Fulani herdsmen.

The call followed a motion under matters of urgent national importance by Simon Arabor (PDP-Kaduna) and five others, which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.

Leading debate on the motion, Mr. Arabor noted that since 2011, various communities in Southern Kaduna senatorial district had been consistently attacked allegedly by Fulani terrorists.

He added that the attacks resulted in deaths, injuries, loss of properties and displacement of the communities.

The lawmaker also noted that the suspected Fulani herdsmen had occupied some of the displaced communities.

He therefore urged the federal government to replicate what it did in Zamfara when it declared a security emergency at the wake of similar terrorist attacks, as well as set up a military strike force.
