Over my dead body would Biafra be achieve - Buratai
The Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai has made it clear to those agitating for Biafran state that it will not be achieve unless he is not alive.
Referring to the groups clamouring for an Independent state, which are made up of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).
Buratai said the army would not condone any act that could lead to the disintegration of the country.
He made this known in Abuja after receiving an award conferred on him by a coalition of over 80 civil society organisations (CSOs).
“Those people and groups which are bent on destablising our country I suppose they need to wait until can be the following 3 or four millennium for them to do that. That is, can be the next generation of officers and men will allow them at all,” he said.
“Having been given the millennium hero award, I need to call on all of the agitators for separation and other acts of destabilisation, they better forget about it, not in this period, no longer in this millennium.
“I need to mention that we'd retain to do our best to maintain safety atmosphere this is wanted as provided for in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. We had been tasked to defend our country.
“We have taken a number of measures to ensure that the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists who're at the run are subsequently cleared, many have surrendered, a lot of them have been captured.”
Meanwhile, he also promised that insurgency would soon be a thing of the past.
