Ojukwu’s bunker to become tourist centre

Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has said the government will convert one of the famous Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu bunkers to a tourist centre.

One of such bunkers is at Amorka, Ihiala Local Government Area, as well as in Umuahia, Abia State.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, James Eze, who addressed reporters yesterday, said the facility, which provided sanctuary to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu during the Biafra war, would be resuscitated and refurbished.

Eze added that major tourist centres – Ogbunike Cave in Oyi and the Ogbaukwu Caves and Waterfalls in Owerre Ezukala, Orumba South Local Government Area, were also approved for refurbishment.

He said: “The Obiano administration would, in its first 100 days, take steps to reposition tourism to enable the state mine the potential therein.

“These tourist centres will receive immediate attention with the construction of access roads to them.”
