May Day: Abubakar owing Bauchi retirees N20bn – Zwall
Former chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Bauchi State, Comrade Iliyasu Zwall has disclosed that about N20bn is being owed retirees in the State by Governor Abubakar.
Zwall spoke to journalists in an interview in Bauchi marking the Workers’ Day.
He said it’s pathetic that despite collecting Paris Club and huge monthly allocations from the Federal Government, Bauchi government cannot afford to pay retirees their entitlement.
The former labour leader lamented that since 2014, no single retiree in the state has been paid its entitlement and that several of them have died.
He blamed the current labour leaders in the state for the plights of civil servant.
“Honestly, the current crop of labour leaders in Bauchi state are the bane of civil servants challenges linking to their collective interest,” said Zwall.
According to Zwall, children of retired civil servants in the state are majority in public schools since their parents cannot afford to pay fees in private schools.
He urged governor Abubakar to enhance effort to pay retirees their entitlement.
