15 armed robbers rape youth corps member in Bayelsa
A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was over the weekend gang raped by a 15-man gang of robbers in Yenagoa, Bayelsa.
It was learnt that the robbers carried out the dastardly act after they invaded the ‘Corpers Lodge’ at Yenizue Gene, a suburb of Yenagoa, about 3am, June 17th.
According to reports, the armed robbers overpowered the neighborhood vigilantes who are usually armed with only sticks and machetes.
Residents of the community later rescued her after the robbers raped her in turns, News Telegraph reports.
The corps member is currently in a critical condition at the hospital after residents took her to the hospital.
A vigilante, simply identified as Tonye, said the police were alerted but there was little they could do because the area had been thrown into darkness by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Asinim Butswat, could not give details of the incident.
He said the command was yet to receive any information about the incident.
