Five killed in Borno explosion today
Five persons have been confirmed dead by the police in a suspected suicide attack at a bus garage in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Wednesday morning.
The Borno State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Victor Izukwu, in a message to our correspondent said, “Two vehicles were involved in the blast, the first vehicle with registration number JERE 349 XA had all its occupants, four female and the male driver killed.”
“The second vehicle which was very close had its five occupants injured, but none died as they only sustained varying degrees of injuries.”
The police spokesman said the occupants of the other vehicle were lucky to have escaped death because they ran out of the vehicle immediately the explosion occurred.
He said the incident occurred at about 8:30am.
But in a separate message by the spokesman for the National Emergency Management Authority, Sani Datti, he said eight persons lost their lives and fifteen others were injured.
He said both the dead and injured persons were evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
He said the incident occurred in Muna garage in Maiduguri, Borno State and that emergency workers were immediately deployed in the area.
